MEPs receive the following;
An average salary of £83,000 per year.
A daily “subsistance allowance” of £265.
An average flat rate allowance of £168 to cover the cost of travelling from their home to either Brussels or Strasbourg.
Up to £242,000 per annum in staff salaries and office equipment.
A generous health care and pension scheme.
It is estimated that an MEP can cost around £400,000 per year.
You would think they could at least stay awake when they are at work!
PS. According to the official Treaty establishing the European Community (TEC) there should be 732 MEPs. In fact there are more than that, but the actual numbers cannot be verified. They even ignore there own laws.
So, as this is a site about numbers, do the maths on how much MEPs cost us!
