Numenko Board Game

Education

Most children today are great with technological games. That is, playing them! Suppose they decided that when they leave school they would actually like to have a job creating new games. Wouldn’t that be great if your child had an ambition they were able to fulfill!

But, are they acquiring the skills needed to actually create one of those games when they leave school and have to start a job. Every job has one basic skill requirement – MATHS.

Family bonding

Does it seem a bit far-fetched saying that playing this game will help with pulling a family together? It is a simple fact, and the saying “The family that plays together stays together”, is more apt today than ever before.

People are naturally communal and need social interaction. Just watch the children in a school playground and see how they are playing together. Letting the children sit in front of the TV or twittering on their phones might be the easy solution and it takes more effort to play a game with your children but the benefits are very rewarding.

Getting the kids away from the TV screen or the computer and changing that electronic stare for the unexpected pleasure of laughter and that thing called conversation is magical. Think back to your own childhood and you are sure to remember those times.

Life skills

Something as simple as playing a board game teaches you to share things, learn a bit of patience while you wait for your turn. When you win you feel good about yourself, and when you lose you learn to accept that you cannot win every time and you adapt your thinking for the next game.

Learning

Learning isn’t the same as education. When you get involved in the fun of playing you don’t think about the fact that you are actually picking up new skills. You are learning the rules, learning how to start the game and how to play and adapt as the game progresses. You get engrossed in the game and you are actually learning how to concentrate, how to use strategy, make decisions on your choice of tiles to play.

Fun

Why do we play games? Let’s be honest it isn’t to learn, pick up life skills, be educated or even to bond as a family. It’s because it is FUN. So when you are playing a game with your children don’t get too competitive, but be enthusiastic and complimentary when they make a particularly clever move.

Numenko-in-a-bag

A game played in a similar fashion to the board game BUT without the board! It offers all the benefits of the board game plus some extras.

Convenience

Because there is no board this means the game packs into a small bag which is easy to carry when the family goes out for the day. It can be played on almost any flat surface practically anywhere, anytime.

Pre-school children

This version is ideal for introducing pre-school children to numbers. They can sit at a table and arrange the tiles in different ways. Mum or an older child can show them how to do simple sums.

Younger children

Because all the players play at the same time, BUT each player plays independently in this version, it allows younger children to play with older players without putting them at a disadvantage. In this version of the game the winner is the player who uses all their tiles first.

Special needs

This version is useful for people struggling with their number skills. It does not have complicated parts, just simple wooden tiles with numbers and operators on them. It is tactile and immediately hands on. It can be big sums or little sums, simple addition or more complicated equations.
Non-threatening, because there doesn’t have to be a right or wrong answer, it can be just a game.
